Artificial intelligence has rapidly moved from an experimental coding assistant to a core component of modern software development. From startups to large enterprises, developers increasingly rely on AI-powered tools to generate functions, refactor legacy systems, and even design entire applications. Application security, or AppSec, has traditionally evolved alongside human-driven development practices. The result is a widening gap that many security teams are struggling to close.

Many tools do not provide detailed provenance or explainability. Auditors may struggle to determine:

  • Whether secure coding standards were followed.

  • How vulnerabilities were assessed before release.

AI-generated code is not a temporary trend. It is becoming a permanent layer in how software is built. Application security must therefore adapt to a world where code is abundant, fast-moving, and partially opaque.

Organizations that fail to modernize their AppSec strategies risk accumulating invisible technical debt that attackers can exploit. Those that succeed will treat AI as a force multiplier for both productivity and security, embedding controls where code is born, not after it ships.


Application security is struggling to keep pace with AI-generated code because it was built for a slower, human-centric development era. AI changes the volume, velocity, and nature of software creation, exposing gaps in tools, processes, and accountability.
